The tie-plate theory makes ZERO sense and is just one railfan hearing something on the scanner and it getting passed along without any thought being given to it. The derailment is in the middle of the train. So that would mean the locomotives pilot plow miraculously cleared the tie plates, as did a hundred or so axles and THEN it derailed? give me a break...
