As far as I know, SMART will initially end near the NWP depot in San Rafael, and passengers will have to transfer to buses to get to the ferry terminal at Larkspur Landing (Greenbrae).

Restoring the railroad to Greenbrae might be interesting. As I recall, many years ago San Rafael removed the railroad crossing at Andersen Drive as a street improvement. This was done without PUC approval, and when this was brought to San Rafael's attention they said "don't worry, we'll pay to restore it if and when it is needed."

The problem is that the crossing site no longer meets PUC requirements since the railroad crosses the road at a very flat angle. Because of this, someone will probably have to pay for grade separation.

The other issue is getting passengers from the railroad at Greenbrae to the ferry docks.
