Margaret,
as a lifelong professional seedsman I feel that our industry has failed at informing folks like you about how we put food in front of you and Billions of others. If our media took an informative approach rather than an argumentative or agenda driven stance you and millions of other people would not fear Roundup; other weed, insect and fungal killing chemicals, and would come to understand plant breeding improvments. If you choose to really inform yourself about agricultural practices, check the internet and visit real working farms and ranches. Be assured all chemicals must be registered with the EPA, and individual states to be used very specificly on crops. Heavy fines and penalties can be levied for misuse.
I can assure you that the Monsanto people(as well as Syngenta, Bayer, Dupont and Dow) do the same things you do such as eat, raise families, go to church, pay taxes and do not want harmful things to happen to anyone.
More food is needed in a lot of places and thankfully in North America we have a truly wonderful freight rail system that can pack the goods from the production/processing areas to anywhere.
