I am very, very appreciative of the photo of the last UP train on Third St. in Oakland.
In November 1996, I did a trip to California from the East because of a cheap plane which became available. While in the San Francisco Bay Area, I went to Oakland in the hopes of seeing a UP train on Third Street. A lit signal (red) led me to believe the line was still in operation and I waited in vain 2 or 3 hours for a train that never came.
Oh, well at least UP amused me by running trains on the ex-SP tracks through Jack London Square.
