Collins is currently not shipping any chips by rail, and have not for almost a year now. The reason has to due with the nature of the chips. They have been running fire salvaged wood from the Aug 2012 Barry Point Fire. This fire burned thousands of acres of their land as well as Forest Service land. With all of the charred bark, there is too great of a chance for char to contaminate the clean chips rendering them useless for a paper mill as the char shows up as black spots in the paper. So the chips are not going o paper mills, hence no rail cars. Expect this to continue until sometime late next year when they are back into green trees.
