From the omnipotent Government's perspective then, the governed (make that the segment of the populace that was polled) obviously don't know what's good for them. We need to understand that we only elect people who are smarter than we are--and that those people then appoint bureaucrats of equally exalted intelligence.
By the way, the voters are skeptical of the initiative process anymore because even when something is passed (or rejected) by a vote of the people, some black robe somewhere will simply decree that the outcome is null and void because of some ipso-facto flaw somewhere in the process. Somebody mentioned "the folks" responding to advertising----that's right on. Low information sheep respond to "slick". Put enough polish on a turd and people will line up to dine on it. [NOTE: The previous statement is an overall societal generalization and is not necessarily meant to declare that the project of reference in this thread is, or is not the aforementioned excreted object.]
