On 11-4-43, Frank rode SP train 246 behind Pacific 2479 from Berkeley to Sacramento arriving there at 1720.
The next morning, he got on X4234E and left Roseville at 0830.
From Roseville to Norden, the train had ACs 4176 & 4183 as helpers.
X4234E arrived Sparks at 1730.
On 11-6-43, Frank rode the cab of AC 4180 on X4180W to Roseville.
This train had AC 4151 as a helper from Truckee to Norden.
Arrival at Roseville was at 2045.
The next day Frank rode X4364W to Port Costa. 4364 was a 4-8-2. Left Sacramento at 1330 and arrived Port Costa at 1745.
He then caught train 223 with Pacific 2440 and rode it home to Berkeley arriving at 1905

Mogul 1660 was a long time Western Division locomotive and spent some time on the Napa Valley Branch. Frank was able to purchase her bell from the SP.

SP fans will note at least 2 survivors out of this group, Pacific 2479 and GS-6 4460.

Frank's ride in the cab of AC 4180 was but one of several that he enjoyed over the hill. He made the comment more than once that it was pretty easy back then to ride the cabs of SP steam in freight service. ATSF was not that way at all, pretty strict even way back then. He did not try the WP very often but did ride their locomotives some.
