I did forget to mention that we are required to operate at restricted speed on a yellow signal in CTC + YL. Other than that I see no difference between CTC and CTC + YL. However the conversion of ABS + YL to CTC + YL did add another restriction. There are several hand throw switches that are not protected by electric locks. Therefore the rules require a maximum of 20mph head end restriction in the area of these switches if those tracks are to be used to clear an engine (and they are--with a switch engine). So in effect the CTC slows down the YL track and YL slows down the CTC.
Some people may not realize that an engine may not clear at a hand throw switch in CTC that is not equipped with an electric lock unless the speed is 20mph or less (30mph on a controlled siding). I remember a case where a cabless unit had to be set out at the nearest switch. It was a hand throw without an electric lock so the dispatcher issued a temporary slow order of 20 mph to comply with the rule. We laughed since a cabless unit (a B30-7A) could not ever enter the main on its own and felt the engine should have been treated as a boxcar. Of course rules are rules and even when they don't make sense must be complied with.
