The federal highway tax should have been doubled back in 08-09 when the economy was in freefall and gasoline prices hit the dirt as well. A more stable economy and declining fuel prices this time around practically demand that this be the time the taxes are raised. Anyone besides John Q Idiot-Public (his mother was an independent woman) in the transportation industry sees the benefit of increasing the tax.
