D&J moved in the last couple of years, but long before then they liquidated their G scale selection and downsized the HO. Quite a bit of the HO stuff had been on display since the 80s so much of it probably wasn't relevant to the modern DCC crowd. I haven't been by the new location so I can't speak to the current selection.

The Train Shop has what looks to these eyes as a growing selection of modern N and HO stuff. Their book selection is great and it's hard to get out of there without some new SP tome. I've been visiting since they were at their first hole in the wall location. One constant for better or worse is the clubhouse vibe on busy days with scores of aging modellers blocking aisles and the front counter. I can see how this would be intimidating or a turn off to casual/new customers.
