OK OK - I went to a high school that was almost a branch of UC Berkeley during the Free Speech Movement. Sorry about the mis-identification of the country of origin of the gage. Though actually it came from England, but anyway...
Again, the map was an artwork, and I appreciate it for that. As far as rail into the various corners of the BA ... doesn't VTA have light rail schemes for the Vasona Branch? Rail doesn't have to mean BART. And SamTRANS/Caltrain have schemes for the Dumbarton crossing.
Interestiong that in this interpretation of BART's old map the Geary line was a stand-alone spur terminating BART service from the E.Bay. The Marin line takes off in a different direction. Perhaps somebody who Was There in the planning bunch at the time can discuss that - I thought Marin was supposed to take off from the Geary line somewhere around Park Presidio. Of course, that could have been a later refinement. This map does look in fact like an early version where BART was going to take over the Muni rail lines.
