New Mexico'a Governor Martinez is pretty adamant against using state funds for the rail upgrades btwn Lamy and Kansas. Something like 40 mil a year from each state. New Mexico has two HUGE payments to make in 2017/18 from the funding of the Railrunner. Something like 200 mil for each payment. NM doesn't have the money. The Governor would just like to scrap the whole Railrunner program now. At the end of 2015 BNSF's contact with Amtrak to maintain that part of the Chief's route will end. If no money has come forward to upgrade and maintain the line, sure bet the train will re-route through Belen (by passing ABQ) and continuing on BNSF's S transcon line into Texas.
