What would seem to me to make preserving the Raton Pass route a bit more feasible is supplementing the Chief with a series of Albuquerque-Denver (optional extension to Fort Collins) corridor trains.. I've noted that the Colorail passenger rail advocacy group has long argued for service bridging between the two transcontinental routes.
