Not diesel but steam...I few years back, I witnessed a pan fire on a locomotive spill to the ground and immediately light the years of accummualted fuel on the ground directly underneath. It wasn't a pretty sight, but the engineer managed to jump back on and move the machine away from the wet fuel and the fire died down and was extinguished. The kid responsible had the task of climbing under and running new rubber oil lines to replace the burnt ones.
