Thank you very much for the very useful and interesting info!
I am obviously NOT an expert on anything related to radios.
I was just passing on what a source told me. He thought what
he had learned meant that the UP was not going to use NXDN.

IMNSHO (I never pretend to be humble -- LOL!) digital radios
should NEVER be used by railroads. The cliff effect makes it
impossible to hear what is being said far away, as "mook" said
so well, and this will cause huge problems for operating crews --
up to and including costing some people their lives, if no one
can hear them -- because the signal will not be heard by those
who really need to hear it.
