For photos, "Valley Division Vignettes" can't be beat.

By far the most glaring defect of the second edition of this book is the omission
of the text on the bottom of page 66, one of the dumbest errors I have ever seen
in a book. The missing text covered the period from the introduction of the San
Francisco Chief in 1954 up to Amtrak operations in 1980. My recommendation is to
borrow a first edition and make a photocopy of the full page 66. Or one could
write to a library that has the first edition (like the Calif. State Railroad
Museum Library) and request that they make a photocopy for you.
