When Disneyland first opened it had two trains, a "passenger train" - Retlaw-1 - and a "freight train" - Retlaw-2, now "Holiday-2", with the two trains running in opposite directions. The passenger train (which Disney no longer owns the cars to, except for the Lily Belle) stopped at Main Street U.S.A. The freight train (still in use today) stopped at the Frontierland station.

The track in front of Main Street U.S.A. where the handcar now resides, used to be the passing siding.
