Regarding Orange Groves, my dad, mom, and oldest sister ( the only one of us 4 kids to be in existance at the time ) visited Disneyland the 1st month it was open in 1955. Driving down Anaheim - Telegraph Rd. from Glendora, ( maybe it was Manchester Blvd. by then ??? ) my dad drove right past, as he couldn't see it for the Orange Groves that still surrounded the park!!! My dad did get to shake hands with Walt Disney himself; when asked how the family liked the park, my dad commented that he couldn't find anyplace to buy a beer !!! Walt said in reply : " You never will be able to drink alcohol in Disneyland." Of course, that rule was broken by Club 33, set up by Walt in New Orleans Square for 33 of Disneyland's greatest $upporter$.
Regarding the Railroad, my buddy Wayne rode the train for free with his father, a Santa Fe welder, on his dad's employee pass. Back in the Day...
Trivia Time : Remember when Disneyland had ticket books for the rides ??? Who can name all the E - Ticket Rides ??? Also, what was the inside joke regarding E - Tickets in Julie Brown's song The Homecoming Queen's Got a Gun???
