I think UP should stand up and release a press update and explain to the public what is going on. Make it as short as possible. Then, they (UP) should check damage control and get rid of (fire) any person related to this mess. Period. Also, a better track of the money is needed so the UP isn't taken for a ride. (Chrome boiler jackets?)
I know they will not want to hear it, but the Presidents office would be a good place to start. Yesterday!!!! If there are VPs, etc, send them packing too. This is a project that UP embraced years ago, for PR, and with the current "management", it is going down hill on a one way trip.
There are PLENTY steam qualified employees & managers in the US that could step right in and do it. Hell, they don't have to be employees.
Come on UP. Put this crap to bed and re-organize the steam team and get back to railroading. You have a responsibility to your employees AND stock holders. (Also old retired rails like me) I started in 69 with the "friendly" as a fireman and went through the merger with sad reminders of what was. Yes, I don't like the "Yellow Peril" but they do seem to take intrest in their history.
Come on UP, set out the BS folks and go back to a good, well managed program.
