In the days beyond recall I designed cyclotron magnet supplies (among other things). Practice had been to use welding cable all the way up to 250 MCM. But they were exceeding the voltage rating and trying to terminate the stuff was like working with a furball, about 2000 strands.
Then I came across diesel cable. Perfect!
As mentioned, 2,000 volt rating, one didn't need a sledgehammer to install it, as with regular electrical 37 strand cable, and no more furballs.
In some places the cables had to be installed by licensed electricians even though this was all dc output from a (very large) power supply. They were always curious about the stuff.
