When I did searches on this subject it was always stated that VIA uses 480v.
GO Transit started ops in the 60's and along the way adapted the Canadian commercial voltage of 575v for hotel power. Others (CNW,Amtrak)came to a different standard later.
Yes I saw Amtrak units pulling Metrolink cars. Metrolink pulling GO transit without the APU's? No. Pulling the Sounder and Ace lease cars, yes.
I have seen Coaster engines dispatched to rescue Amtrak trains.
Voltages are cast into the lid of the plug recepticale and marked at bus points as an aid to emergency responders. No joking allowed there.
