Ah yes! Now my memory becomes clearer! It WAS good ol JB from St Maries that convinced the powers that be in Lewiston to shift support away from reopening the line. I guess he figured out pretty early that he'd lose a ton of business hauling wood chips from St Maries to the Lewiston pulp mill if the BN/WI&M plans came to fruition.
The funny thing is, JB trucking does nothing for the Port of Lewiston these days! The one wood chip barge loading site has been shut down for some time now. You would think someone representing the Port would have done a cost/benefit analysis of reopening the rail line vs ripping it out would affect potential port business.
