Actually, if you dig back into history, you'll find that the Republicans (and their predecessors, the Whigs), until the early 20th century, were frequently proponents of Big Public Projects (for their time) and central control. Of course, the control was to work in favor of those with most of the money (that part hasn't changed). The Democrats were the party of thinly disguised anarchy. How things have changed ...
