Big difference between automatic operation and crewless. I can see automatic operation coming soon. But someone will still be needed on board to handle the unexpected. This is common practice in many heavy industries in US. In automatic operation, when something unexpected happens, everything comes to a stop. Someone is needed to get things running again. But if that operator happens to fall asleep or get distracted by a phone call, there is no resulting disaster.
