The way UP currently runs it the 2nd track from Switch 9 to Shed 10 would seem to be more beneficial than any dream of the summit. Delays to westbounds out of Truckee are usually less than 30 minutes unless Amtrak is in the mix gumming things up. Heavy eastbounds slowly grinding up the hill on the single track or having issues getting going again at E Gap usually cause heavier delays than a Big Hole wait.
