The EB track's upgrading was hastily completed in the early 1990s when it was discovered the trestle structure on the WB track had deteriorated more serious than previously determined. The SP had been driving piles for both tracks for about 20 years (a summer project), and virtually all the piles had been driven for the WB track, although only about every third cap had been installed. When the WB (now #1) track was put back, all the UP did was drive piles for the headwalls (UP's headwall design is different than the SP's), the headwalls, install the missing caps, and place [concrete box] stringers on them (and concrete ties in the track of course).
