We like trains. We don't like them to go kaboom... That defeats the whole purpose of transportation-to get stuff from where it comes from to where it's wanted, safely, efficiently, and reliably.
Those of us who've worked in a safety sensitive environment, with all kinds of dangerous stuff, like at the railroad, know that it's a dangerous world we work in. So, as adults, we try not of screw up, if we can help it. And, if we know better and keep on screwing up, then, in this world where the rights of others do matter, just as our own rights do, we can be held liable for our actions, and the danger they cause to others. We even establish rules and regulations to try to reduce dangers to ourselves and the potential to harm others, strange as that concept may seem to some.
Most of these railroad rules are and were written in blood, and many of these regulations came about because folks failed to act responsibly, and managed to harm the person or property of others. So it is generally good to take these sort of things seriously and do what is proper to eliminate unnecessary risks, wherever it is reasonably prudent and possible to do so.
I realize that some folks seem to have all kinds of problems with that kind of regulation and with the concept of responsibility, in general, which is really kind of weird, when you think of it. But hey, it takes all kinds to make the world we live in.......
