I believe Caltrain runs with two. I think they could get by with one since most passengers use a clipper card and they're required to tag on and off at the machines so conductors don't have to sell or punch tickets and put a tag over the seat like they did in the "old days" If the new electric trains are equipped with prerecorded announcements and destination signs on the cars there would be even less work for them. If the FRA would allow it, engineers could open the car doors from the cab
