OK… So, it seems that in the US, there is way more evacuation than elsewhere in the world. Many commuter networks operate driver only (and considering 1500 and more passengers on a full length S-Bahn or RER train is a different league than 150 in a SMART train). Sounds like very distorted view to me…

Anyway, in this respect, SMART screwed itself twice with the choice of that type of car, as opposed to something like a GTW… higher operation cost with lower power, and higher operation cost because of the conductor needed (a GTW is a single vehicle).
