Re: There’s no proof Daylight Saving Time saves electricity, so why do we even bother?

The real world data say that it *is* warming. Don't let a cold snap in the eastern US fake you out. The trend is clear if you look at it over a longer period and even recently is hasn't been down - just not up as fast as it "should" be given simple-minded extrapolation of the long-term trend. That's not because CO2 doesn't have the effect that's been demonstrated in actual experiments; it's because something we don't understand has been holding it back in recent years. There are many theories proposed to account for the difference, but no "answers."
I tend to think that rapidly increasing global temps (which have to happen, given the CO2 content in the atmosphere) will have adverse effects on the planet's ecosystems, and the humans that like it or not are part of it. Many of the planet's occupants won't be able to adapt fast enough to survive, probably. Not sure if humans will participate in the population reduction or not, and if we do whether or not it will be voluntary, and how nasty it will get before things settle down again. Of course, I won't be observing that process directly, except perhaps in some dystopian science fiction/fantasy novels. My grandkids will be in the thick of it. I don't expect them to have happy thoughts when they remember me or the other generations presently running things, and rightly so.
Besides, if you can't take a joke snide comment ... sorry. And if you tie anything to GHG mitigation it sells in California, even if it actually makes sense. Is there hope for an end to DST in this oddball state if that point is made to the right people?
