No, you're not a voice in the wilderness, though sometimes a post with a bit of thought and research behind it seems unusual here. Definitely lately where some of the thread starters seem to verge on trolling.
The LAT article linked in the lead post had nothing directly to do with trains. The connections are there, but they come from further analysis of secondary (how many trains are electrically powered, and what will be the effect of losing hydro - yes, that's important but not what the LAT article was about) and tertiary or farther (drought effects on ag and other water users, potentially reducing economic activity and therefore reducing business for railroads - as well as trucks, as well as raising food prices, etc.etc.) considerations. In that sense, I still think that, while an interesting subject, there was little to do with trains.
Not that the relation to trains has been very important here lately. And I do appreciate your drawing the connection to electrics for those who hadn't though about it before.
