Having retired from the produce business in California nearly 21 years ago, wait until food prices rise from less crops growns and/or higher costs from importing water from northern California. I would always get an earfull from Californians on why their veggies are more expensive.
I got the same complaints when California had too much water. I recall one time around 1987 or so when the Sacramento and San Joaquin valleys got flooded from lots of rain. It wasn't but about 4 or 5 months later when tomato prices jumped real high due to shrinking supplies. One women voiced her displeasure to me about the high prices, so I informed her it was due to the winter rains.
"That was months ago," she said. "The weather has been good for months now."
I said, "That's true, but you can't plant tomato seeds when the fields are under water. You have to wait for the soil to recover."
I think she got the point, but Californians are a spoiled lot because so much is grown there. Now you can get just about anything you want from all over the world as long as your willing to pay for it. Growing seasons don't mean much today.
