AC power burns out light bulbs faster than DC because of the on-off pulses causing the filaments to vibrate.

Remember the little round discs you could put in the receptacle between the contact and bottom of the light bulb?

This disc contained a diode which rectified the ac to dc and made the bulbs last almost forever.

We have signal bulbs on the OPR installed in 1997 operating on straight dc that are original.
