Here's a pioneer AC operated Interurban in Northern California ...

The "San Francisco, Napa and Calistoga Railway" which ran for 42 miles from Calistoga to Vallejo, during the years 1905--1937. The line used 25 Hz AC at 3,300 Volts rather than the direct-current equipment used on most interurban railroads.
