Fascinating!!! This definitely refutes the stories about Direct Current not being efficient or practical over long distances.
BTW, Milwaukee Road's Lines West Electrification used 3000 Volts D.C., with substations every 15 miles or so depending on the terrain. When the deal was made to buy the Little Joes, Milwaukee Road had to increase the wire voltage on the Rocky Mountain electrification to 3,400 Volts D.C., the minimum that the 4000 Volt Joes could run on.
