The first time I saw the 2100 and her sister 2101, they were languishing among a forlorn bunch of dead first generation diesel locomotives in a salvage yard in Baltimore. The business was stripping the engines out of the diesels and selling them for marine use. Seeing two steam locomotives in such proximity to cutting torches was not a pretty picture. That was about 1968-70. Then came the Freedom train and the need for a locomotive that could do the job and fit the East coast clearances. Now this. I believe I have seen more of this locomotive in a non operating state than in operation. Forgive my ignorance, but, how did she end up in Washington state ?
