I'm not a lawyer but I believe that if you insist on a warrant they could take you off the train and detain you until they obtain one. That process could take a few hours so the train will leave without you. If/when they let you go you'd probably have to buy a new ticket to get to your destination. Same thing could happen if you're pulled over for a routine highway traffic stop. You'd be detained and they could make you wait for a drug sniffing dog or warrant. 60 Minutes did a story a few years ago about the feds seizing cash from people buying airplane tickets with paper money or carrying large sums of money on a plane even if they said it was for buying legitimate merchandise at their destinations. Paying large amounts of cash for sleeping car rooms especially the SW Chief passing thru Albuquerque is apparently a red flag for DEA agents. Buying one way airplane tickets with cash at any Airport is also considered suspicious terrorist method. It's a good idea to buy prepaid debit cards. Even Greyhound is now preferring that
