By the late 1970's Bayshore was just one example of SP's move out of loose carload business. In 1970 NWP was hauling two one hundred car trains a day. Switch engines were common at nearly every SP yard . SP's land development arm created a huge warehouse development outside of Reno without spurs or rail service. They had giving up on railroading. I remember seeing eight to ten switch engines working ATSF's Richmond yard too. Travel time between Bayshore and Oakland via Dumbarton was around three hours. What is the travel time now? Only shortlines are interested in a single carload every now and then . Railroading has changed dramatically.
