Ummm ... connection with an airport that actually has people using it, who might be interested in going farther using HSR? Naw, that makes too much sense - must kill it. And it's not one of the LA World Airports, while PMD is LAWA's "reliever" dream (though look at what they did with ONT when it was actually working) if they can figure out how to throw out the Air Force. PMD as a commercial airport is a lot like fuel cells in cars: has always been 10 years from greatness and always will be. Do you work for LAWA, that you want to cut a Burbank connection?
Remember when towns WANTED a railroad station, and railroads got them to cough up land, money, and even construction for one? Now they're NIMBYs (see: Santa Clarita). So Be It: IMO, for any more than 2 stops (Fresno & Bakersfield, and the latter is expendable if they whine too much) between SJ and BUR, CAHSR should follow that policy - other stops are on the local nickel. OK, maybe something for Merced, too, when the time comes for a Sacramento extension connecting there. For the non-HSR-funded extra stops, there should be a standard plan that includes through express tracks, every time. No fudging.
