Even if you (or a museum) own your own property, the land can be taken away from you if it is deemed to be in the public good. Definition of eminent domain:
"The power to take private property for public use by a state, municipality, or private person or corporation authorized to exercise functions of public character, following the payment of just compensation to the owner of that property."
Nothing is guaranteed forever. Who knows what the future is for the PLA, GGRM, WPRM, WRM, OERM, etc... Every museum has a threat to its existence. Some are more at risk than others. Even museums owned and operated by the government can be on the chopping block (Railtown was on the State Parks closure list when California was looking to save money).
So enjoy them while you can.
