Unfortunately, you are correct. Many shortlines are run by ex-class one guys who really don't care. As a former shortline manager, I ran into this quite often. The other problem comes from marketing people in shortline holding companies that have "other" duties (ie. generating revenue projection charts) that consume most of the time they should be out checking with customers and recruiting new ones. Too bad you are not able to work with shortlines that do things right. I would be losing lots of sleep if you said this about my operation.
