The Chehalis Western (Curtis, Mulburn & Eastern) locomotive you refer to is in a good secure home, has been repainted and preserved, and is part of a railroad history display that is an asset to the community. The community also paid for restoration of a wood UP caboose, which looks better than possibly any wood caboose restoration in the state. "Morons"?
Yes, I was disappointed at the time that the prime mover was traded to the restorer (CEECO) for the cosmetic restoration work, but as time passes I think it was a worthwhile trade.
Did you notice that a rare Great Northern NW5 in the care of Oregon Pacific RR was scrapped last year?
