There was a minor mixup with the Richmond ATSF photos from the Kansas Memory site where I mistakenly called some Richmond. A few were actually mislabbeled at the site. Thank Bill Root and Stash for correction. Here are the full set of San Franicsco freight house pictures. Bill Root, please have your wife explain what is going on in the office and what era she believes this was. When did they close this office?
The inside of the freight office. I wonder if Paul Hastings worked here.
Belt conveyor that delivered paper from office to warehouse
Outside view of freight office. 1420 4th St. It appears that in the old days fourth st. crossed third and thus this building was on water side of 3rd St. whereas today 4th St. runs parallel on land side of it.
View from other side of building. What do you think the sign says?
View up a track to what looks like the freight house tracks. To the right is the ramp over the ATSF tracks that I believe took streetcar tracks at one time up over the ATSF tracks onto Potrero Hill.
This looks like it's on the water side of the building down toward the freight house itself. Notice the crossbucks on a pipe with a flattened end. There is still one of these now part of a planter on the tracks that went over Mariposa and crossed Mississippi. I know of only one other crossbuck in SF--a WP one that's been bolted in but otherwise untouched.
Here's inside the freight house with a caption. Photo by R. Collins Bradley
Santa Fe Bus Terminal in SF. Where is this building? I wonder if it is still there. Neat looking.
