I visited the real Rio Grande ng. many times back in the 60's, but much of the line between Antonito and Los Pinos was difficult to access and there were a lot of good pix I never got back then. So it is fun to get some of those missing pix 50 years later by riding chartered photo freights on todays C&TS. Now it is easy to get to spots that would have required hiking miles back in the day. The C&TS is an amazing time machine, with the tourist railroad maintaining the track and engines, and the Friends of the C&TS maintaining a growing fleet of historic freight cars. Historic Transport Preservation (Steam Specials) does a great job of using those resources to run fairly authentic recreations of the old days. This is one of my favor pics from a charter last September (excuse the link, the file is too large to post here directly)
A nice phraud-o-freight
Phraud-o-frieght is a nice tongue in cheek description of this sort of thing.
