Old Merl Hagard had an old Ford coupe in the Valley. He used to lower the tire pressure and cruise the branches on the weekend when he knew there were no trains running. Every once and awhile the SP dicks would catch him, write a ticket and off he would go. He just paid the fine and kept doing it.

He had a nephew who hired out as a brakeman on the Coast and I had him and Charlie Babers, Jr. as the head men out of SLO.
