BOTH photos are taken in front of the Western Pacific depot, Oakland, CA. The Zephyr is WESTBOUND.
The street next to this depot on the West end was Washington Street. The street next to this depot on the East end was Broadway. The street in front is 3rd Street. Good enough clarification ??

Trivia note: If you were around this area in "1938" and stepped into the Western Pacific baggage room, you would have found a large, O-gauge, Model Railroad club. Bet you didn't know that, did you ?
