Thanks engr for the extensive search and info, and all y'all who filled in the pieces.
More from my probably faulty memory and the Coast
IIRC in trailer days one of those train sets was called The Starpacer in the ETT
Interesting info about schedule numbers to Oakland above San Jose.
In later years, the last gasp of the coast mail -'Sad Sam' was renumbered as 191 all the way to San Francisco, changed from 91 when it ran to Oakland. The 191 number fit in with the commute numbers.
THat begs another question
Standard rules said a train could not leave a station before the time shown in the ETT
So did other folks on the RR get " 191 run late..." orders ? or did 191 have to sit out the padding time [ occasionally?].

The rearend collision at Wellsona was in Sept 1941, #374 ran into #76, both trains had Daylight engines
