Years ago the BLM ordered the Parker400 off road race off the California side of the course. This
was an established off road race course, order off came as a result of tortoise protection. None
of us who ever either pre-ran or raced ever saw a tortoise. And to add insult to injury, the very
area that the course traversed was used by Patton for tank training during WWII. It's a wonder we
won the war.
