Seems like "railbikes" and rail motorcars share some similarity, with the notable difference that one is human-powered and the other is motorized. What I find odd about "railbikes" is the apparent lack of any indemnification (read: Insurance) for the host railroad. This is the main lubricant for gaining a willing attitude within the host railroad for putting up with motorcar excursions. NARCOA members pay $145 per year insurance premium per car for the privilege of riding other people's rails, pus a fee assessed on each run. This fee can be as much as $100 to $200, depending on the location of the run, and the fee goes in large part to the railroad owner after run expenses are covered. This is an expensive hobby. I wonder how much "skin" the typical "railbike" operator has in the excursion game?
