Redwood ?

Another place you could get very nice wood (and its still there in a lot of places) was when they replaced tunnel bents and or the backing. Back when they would fix them, they would replace them with steel and shot-crete or another redwood bent. They would take the old "Stuff" out to where they stored new items and toss the bents over the side. There they sit today if you know where to look.

Another source would be old signal and comm poles. The square ones were redwood. A lot of those out there too, here and there. Just left after the wire was salvaged, some even with cross arms.
